Cookies are also decorated on special occasions, such as Christmas and New Year. You can decorate the sugar cookies by sprinkling some sugar or with icing. There is a tradition in the USA since 1930, according to which, children keep milk and sugar cookies for Santa, every Christmas. The interesting thing is that, there is also a sugar cookie day, that is celebrated on July 9, and it is a holiday! Sugar cookies are made in different shapes, decorated in various styles, and exchanged between family and friends.

How to make sugar cookies? Making sugar cookies is quite easy, and can be fun.

Let us learn how to make sugar cookies from scratch at home.

Ingredients
3 cups of flour
1 egg
3/4th teaspoon of baking powder
1 tablespoon of milk
1/4th teaspoon of salt
Powdered sugar
1 cup of regular sugar
1 cup of softened butter

Method

Mix baking powder, flour, and salt together, and keep it aside.
Take butter and sugar in a bowl, and blend it well (till it becomes light in color.)
Add the egg and milk, and mix it well.
Slowly, add flour to the mixture, and make a dough.
Cut the dough into two parts, put in waxed paper, and keep it in the refrigerator for two hours.
Preheat the oven to the temperature of 375 degrees.
Sprinkle powdered sugar, where you’ll roll the dough.
Smear powdered sugar on the rolling pin, and roll out the dough with 1/4th inch thickness. Check that the dough is not sticking.
If the dough has become a little warm, then place a cold cookie sheet on top of it for ten minutes.
Cut the cookies into any shape you want, and place them on the baking sheet with a distance of one inch between each other.
Bake them until the sides of the cookies have started turning brown, or approximately for 7 to 9 minutes. Rotate the cookie sheet halfway.
Remove the cookies from the oven, and wait for two minutes.
Place them on a wire rack for cooling.
Serve them (you can also decorate them as you wish)
Store the cookies in an air tight container.
